Intra-company transfers

The intra-company transfer permits international companies to temporarily transfer qualified employees to Canada for the purpose of improving management effectiveness, expanding Canadian exports, and enhancing competitiveness in overseas markets.

The intra-company transfer permits international companies to temporarily transfer qualified employees to Canada for the purpose of improving management effectiveness, expanding Canadian exports, and enhancing competitiveness in overseas markets.

The entry of intra-company transferees is guided by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations and the general provisions of this section, and is supplemented by provisions contained in international trade agreements for citizens of signatory countries.

The Intra-Company Transfer pathway works best for successful entrepreneurs who already have an existing business abroad and want to run an affiliate or new business in Canada. ICT work permit allows business owners to relocate to Canada and establish a new business in Canada. Entrepreneurs who would like to pursue the ICT work permit must incorporate their company in Canada and provide a detailed business plan that includes financial forecasts and a hiring plan. Their existing business in their home country also must have been in operation in another country for at least 12 months. If these conditions are fulfilled, a 1-year work permit may be granted to work in Canada. The initial ICT work permits can be extended for 5-6 years.

An ICT work permit may lead to permanent residence after gaining work experience in Canada. Contact us to schedule an appointment so we may assess your existing business and provide you with the best strategy to bring your business to Canada.
