If they wish to continue working for the same employer, must they apply for a new work permit under

Employees who will be applying to remain in Canada to work in the same position and for the same
employer will be required to extend the authorization to remain in Canada as per R181 of the IRPR prior
to the expiry of their present work permit.
To extend their work permit under a different program, their employer must first submit an offer of
employment through the Employer Portal and pay the required fees, the foreign national must use the
IMM 5710 Application to Change Conditions, Extend my Stay or Remain in Canada as a Worker form to
request a work permit renewal/ extension.
