Will the occupations under the new LMIA exemption categories be subject to the four-year cumulative duration policy?

In general, work permits issued for LMIA-exempt occupations under section 205 - Canadian interests - of

the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) are exceptions to the cumulative duration

(four-year maximum) regulation. As both the new C14 and C23 categories fall under R205, the

occupations would not be subject to cumulative duration. However, if the foreign national were to later

transition to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), the work that he/she has done under the

The International Mobility Program (IMP) would count towards the four year limit.
